Manchester United Transfer News: Latest On Cristiano Ronaldo And Gareth Bale
Cr7 On His Way Back Home ? |
Manchester United
looks to continue its reign atop the English Premier League by
zealously attacking the summer transfer window in pursuit of two
superstars in Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
The Sun's Neil Custis
reported on Friday that the club is willing to dish out an
unprecedented amount of cash to land one of the marquee players. There
is every reason to believe that United can get it done, too.
David Moyes
has big shoes to fill in for legendary retired manager Sir Alex
Ferguson, but he's certainly not shying away from making a grand first
impression. According to Custis, Moyes is willing to fork over £85 million for Bale.
To begin with Ronaldo, though, his appeal is obvious since he was beloved in Old Trafford as a former member of the powerhouse organization for the beginning of his stupendous career.
Since 2009, he has been a global phenom for La Liga's Real Madrid, but had a falling out with outgoing manager Jose Mourinho, who is making a return to the EPL of his own in his second tenure as boss for Chelsea.
That
provides motivation for Ronaldo to compete directly against him, while
returning to the familiar grounds where fans would undoubtedly embrace
his return. The only problem is, Ronaldo still has two years left on his
current deal with Real.
Despite that, Ronaldo felt compelled to
dispel rumors that he would renew his contract with his current club on
Twitter, which has only fueled speculation that he'll return to his
maiden professional club:
All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false.
— Cristiano Ronaldo (@Cristiano) June 13, 2013
This development bodes well for Moyes' chances to lure Ronaldo back to Old Trafford,
and at least somewhat diminishes the notion that Ferguson's departure
will hamper United's effort to remain a consistent world football
contender.
Now to the possibility of Bale: it's extremely tantalizing, hence the hefty price Moyes is willing to pay to obtain his services.
The 23-year-old plays for Tottenham Hotspur, who finished fifth in the EPL table, yet still was able to secure a UEFA
Champions League berth. By stealing Bale from a rival for a record
price, it would only confirm the Red Devils' superiority and weaken an
upstart league foe.
Bale is an extremely versatile winger, and his
past as an effective defender would make United all the more difficult
to deal with. Now he's more attack-oriented, and scored 21 goals in 33
EPL fixtures this past season, per WhoScored.com.
What makes this more intriguing is that Real is interested in Bale, and Custis implies that if the La Liga titans can land him, it would definitely signal Ronaldo's departure.
