Wayne Rooney Is Settled At Manchester United And Is Feeling As Fit as Ever

The prolific striker has been in outstanding form this term and was the runaway winner of the Reds' official Player of the Month award for September, as voted by fans on ManUtd.com and @ManUtd on Twitter. After the champions made it clear throughout the summer that the England international was staying at Old Trafford, he is clearly focused on hitting the net regularly for new manager David Moyes and chasing down Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time goal record.

"To be honest, I've been settled all summer," Rooney told reporters while on international duty. "Obviously there's been a lot of stuff happening and I'm sure everybody was waiting for me to say something but I've been settled. I spoke with the people who matter at the club and we've known ourselves what we are doing. I'm sure the club made that clear.

"I didn't want to come out and say anything, I just wanted to concentrate on my football. That's what I've done, that's what I'll continue to do. I'll just concentrate on my football and see what happens after that."

Rooney knew Moyes from their time at Everton and is determined to flourish under the new boss after feeling he was not in top form last term, despite helping the Reds win another Barclays Premier League title.

"I know myself that last year probably wasn't my best season," he conceded. "But there were times when I was playing in different positions and I felt I didn't really get that consistent run of games up front. "Sometimes, when you're not playing that position all the time, it's difficult to adapt. I think I wanted to prove to myself really rather than to anyone else, in trying to come back fit and sharp and scoring goals. I feel good, I've scored a few goals and I'm playing every week so I'm enjoying it.

"Honestly, the training has been so hard, we've done a lot of different types of training, a lot more running -long running, quicker running, sharper running. I feel that's been of benefit to me. I feel as fit as I have done. I've had a couple of injuries in pre-season but I feel great. I'm in good shape, just wanting to play and train every day."

The United no.10 has made it clear that he prefers playing in attack and is enjoying life off the field as well as on it after the birth of his second son Klay. "I actually feel that when I played midfield I did okay but I didn't want to play there," he admitted.  "I'm not saying that I wouldn't, for instance, in the last ten to fifteen minutes of the game if we were hanging on a bit and I got asked to drop to the left or drop in and help us see through the game, that I'm going to throw my arms up and not do it.

"As I think I've said before, I really have been happy all summer. I know, from the outside looking in, it might not have seemed like that, but I have been. "I've been settled. My wife had a new child, I've been really happy, I've been focused. I'm just delighted to be back playing, and free of injury and fit."
