David Beckham Targeted By Man Utd For Ambassador Role
David Beckham is being lined up to make a fairytale return to Manchester United – as a global ambassador.
It comes as Premier League rivals such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal grow in popularity in Asia, Africa and the US.
A source said: “David is one of a handful of footballers who command a huge following in every continent.” Beckham remains a fan of United after playing there for a decade. He previously said he would like to return to Old Trafford.
Last year he said: “I’m sure it will happen in some way.” Becks has also played in Spain for Real Madrid, Italy with AC Milan and the US for LA Galaxy. He ended his career at Paris Saint-Germain in France.
The star is weighing up several lucrative opportunities. He recently signed up to Sky TV in a five-year deal said to be worth £20million and has been linked to Hollywood acting roles.
Other options are thought to include investing in a team in the States and even returning to the pitch in India.
But champions United are said to be confident the club will be top of his list and boardroom talks on getting him back are expected to begin soon. A source said: “The Glazers feel Becks will be an invaluable asset. His brand is deemed a huge benefit to the club.”
The move would see Becks reuniting with Sir Alex Ferguson, who has taken up a role on the board after retiring as manager after 26 years at United.
